Demolition of Former Lyric Theatre Demolition for Kirk Family YMCA – Kansas City, MO

The former Lyric Theatre in downtown Kansas City is being renovated into a new, state-of-the-art YMCA facility. The project includes renovation of the front historical façade of the existing building, and demolition of the remainder of the building to foundation. SWC, working as a subcontractor to Construction Manager JEDunn, completed the interior demolition, separation, and controlled demolition specified. Work included a large plane separation between the two building wings, and use of a demolition-fitted high reach excavator for rear wing demolition in close urban conditions.

Project Scope

Selective demolition work on a historic structure as part of adaptive re-use. One wing gutted for renovation. Rear wing separated from remainder of structure, and demolished foundation level.
